Introduction Parkinson's disease (PD) is named after Dr. James Parkinson, a British doctor who described the disease in an essay published in 1817.1 The disease has been primarily regarded as a progressive neuro-degenerative motor disorder but non-motor and cognitive symptoms also de velop. (2) PD is one of the most common neuro-degenerative disorders3 second to Alzheimer's and afflicting more than all those with multiple sclerosis, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and muscular dystrophy combined. (1) Although medication and surgery may help symptoms, they neither stop or reverse the degeneration; the objective is to improve the quality of the patient's life.
